Weather.

This course has been delayed.  National is having a problem with getting the books printed.  We will let you know when we will be able to get this class going.  It is planned for the Concord Yacht Club on Northshore Drive.  The cost will be around $60 (couples can share the text).  The new text is at the printers and I don’t know the exact price yet.  If you would like to take weather please email me jmallen88@comcast.net as soon as possible.

Skipper Saver.   National is reworking this course and the new course should be available by this fall.  So put this on your schedule, it is a great course for those of us who are normally the first mate but should know how to operate the boat in case the captain is disabled.   More on this later.

Vessel Safety Checks: Bob Bray has revitalized the squadron’s Vessel Safety Check program and now has several certified examiners including Don Burgett, Jerry Campbell, Nancy Campbell, Jeff Durrie, and Larry Lanz, who collectively, have conducted more than 60 VSCs thus far this year.  If you want your boat inspected or would like to become an examiner give Bob a call at 408-9229.

Squadron 2008-2009 Directory is ready: A new KPS Member directory is available for each member.  You may pick your copy up at one of the events or they will be mailed to those who cannot make it.

Now Hear This, the KPS newsletter: The Now Hear This monthly newsletter provides members with the latest news including updates on KPS/USPS activities and policies, upcoming and recent events and details, contact information, and other boating related information.  Please click for: Now Hear This Newsletter On-line ]

Member Boats Webpage: Want to know what kind of boats our members are cruising in?  Check out the KPS Member Boat webpage (see site links to the right).  Don't see a picture of your boat ..., send along a photo and we will be glad to post it!

Education: Education is a cornerstone of USPS and to this end we offer a variety of educational courses:

The Boat Smart Course - This is our introductory boating safety course for the general public.   This course is a formal introduction to boating and boating safety and is beneficial to folks planning on buying their first boat,  those who already own a boat and would like to feel more comfortable on the water, and even to those "old hands" who have never had formal training in boat handling and boat safety.  For more information including the course schedule, please click here: Boat Smart Course.htm ]

Member Courses - Once you have successfully completed the Boat Smart course, you are eligible to become a member of KPS.  Membership allows you to pursue additional and more detailed courses aimed at making you a more well rounded boater.  Member Course Details ]

Events: One of the goals of the KPS is to help bring people together to share in boating and community events.  The USPS is a not-for-profit organization that wants to serve the community in which we live.  To this end, each year we plan a series of events aimed at serving the boating public and the community.  Please visit our EVENTS page to see which activities you might enjoy as a member or as a guest. This Year's Events Schedule ]

Vessel Safety Check program: Is your boat ready for the season?  Two things that contribute to maximum enjoyment of your boating experiences are safety and comfort.  The Vessel Safety Check program is a joint effort of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary and the United States Power Squadrons to provide boaters with the knowledge that their vessel is operating in compliance with Federal and State Boating regulations and that they have taken the necessary steps to assure themselves and their guests the maximum comfort and safety.  This program is a voluntary, no cost service provided to the boating public.  To learn more please visit Give me the details on the VSC program ]
